Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy was last revised on July 17, 2013.

1. Introduction.

This privacy policy applies to the website operated by Silicon Valley Data Science (“SVDS,” “we,” or “us”) at www.svds.com (the “Site”). If you have questions or concerns about how SVDS uses information, you may contact us by email at privacy@svds.com.

This policy does not govern the use of information by any party other than SVDS. Similarly, SVDS is not liable for the use or misuse of information by users of the Site or any other party.

2. Use of Information.

Like all website operators, SVDS receives, gathers, manages, analyzes, and transfers information. SVDS does so in order to operate and maintain its current Site, to develop new sites and businesses, and to do business with customers and business partners. For example, SVDS may receive, gather, manage, analyze, and transfer:

    • technical and environmental information such as browser type, location, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of use of our websites;
    • information that users of our websites provide to us;
    • information concerning the use of our websites by users;
    • information that has been made anonymous and aggregated;
    • information about users of our websites that we receive from business partners; and
    • information that users of websites make public.

SVDS may receive, gather, manage, analyze, and transfer information in order to correspond with users of its websites and to display advertising about goods and servcies that are of interest to users. SVDS sometimes transfers, shares, and sells information to users, business partners, and customers, and these parties may use such information for their own purposes. SVDS may, or may not, control the use of information by such users, business partners, and customers. SVDS may use information to verify the identity of users, to check user qualifications, and to follow up with transactions initiated on our website(s). We may use contact information to inform users of any changes to our websites or to send users additional information about SVDS and its products and services.

3. No Transfer of Personal Information.

Some users of SVDS websites provide SVDS with personal information when registering to use our websites or when entering into commercial transactions concerning paid-for products and services. For example, a user may provide us with his or her name and email address in order to register for access to a SVDS website or may provide us with a physical mailing address when purchasing a product from us. Unless a user provides SVDS with permission at the time of disclosure or at another time, SVDS will not transfer, lease, or sell personal information collected at the time of registration or commercial transaction except as follows. SVDS may share such information in response to a subpoena, court order, or other governmental request, or when SVDS believes in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect the rights or interests of SVDS, its customers, or business partners, or the public at large.

4. Public Information.

Users may choose to use SVDS websites to make information public. For example, a user may provide information to another user or a collection of users. We typically provide users with site functions and tools that help control the delivery of information. Nonetheless, SVDS does not, and cannot, control how divulged information is used and further disseminated. Any agreement that you may have with another user of the Site concerning the information you divulge through the Site is between you and that user only. SVDS is not, and cannot, be liable for the actions of others.

5. Cross-Border Deliveries.

The facilities of SVDS and its business partners are located around the world. As a result, information provided to us by a user may be delivered to, and processed in, a country that mandates a lesser level of data protection than does the user’s home country.

6. Security.

We employ security measures designed to prevent the loss, misuse, and alteration of information. Nonetheless, we make no assurances about our ability to prevent any such loss, misuse, or alteration.

7. Other Sites and Sites.

The Site may link to websites offered by various parties who maintain separate privacy policies. We do not control such parties or the terms upon which you deal with such parties. Dealings with any such party are between you and such party. We suggest that you read and understand the privacy policy of each party with whom you engage.

8. Children.

Those under the age of 13 may not use the Site. If it comes to our attention that anyone under the age of 13 has delivered personal information to us, we will endeavor to delete this information as soon as possible.

9. Access to Information.

Users may request access, correction, or deletion of personal information as required by law. SVDS will seek to comply with any bone fide request. Requests may be made to SVDS at the addresses mentioned above.

10. Cookies and Web Beacons.

A cookie is a string of information that a website stores on a visitor’s device and that the visitor’s browser subsequently provides to a website. SVDS may use cookies to help SVDS identify and track users, their usage, and their access preferences. A user who does not wish to have cookies placed on his or her device should set his or her browser to refuse cookies before using SVDS websites, with the drawback that certain features of SVDS websites may not function properly without the aid of cookies. SVDS websites may include advertisements and other content delivered by advertisers and other parties. This Privacy Policy does not cover cookies set by any such parties. A web beacon is a small (often invisible) graphic image or other web programming code embedded in a web page or email. Web beacons or similar technologies may be used by SVDS for a number of purposes, including to count visitors to SVDS websites, to monitor how users navigate our websites, and to count how many sent email messages are actually opened.

11. Business Transfers.

If SVDS is acquired or sells all or a portion of its assets to another company, or declares bankruptcy, it is likely that information held by SVDS will be transferred away from SVDS. Nothing in the policy is meant to forbid such a transfer.

12. Change of Policy.

We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to change, modify, add, or delete portions of this privacy policy at any time. If we do this, we will indicate at the top of this page the date this privacy policy was last revised. Unless otherwise stated in a written agreement between SVDS and you (for example, a written agreement between SVDS and you governing use of a paid-for version of our website during a stated period of time), your access or use of our websites on any particular day constitutes your acknowledgement that you’ve reviewed the privacy policy as it exists on that day, so it is your responsibility to review this policy when you use the Site. If you do not agree to this privacy policy, do not use the Site. SVDS will endeavor to notify all registered users of changes to this policy.
