Matthias Funke

Matthias is passionate about transforming client organizations across Europe to become data-driven and agile, and revving up their revenue-generating engines. Matthias has spearheaded the adoption of private cloud and big data in Europe in his prior roles as Director Professional Services at both VMware and Hortonworks.

His background ranges from startups to Accenture to fast-growing category-defining software companies. Specifically, as Director of Professional Services at Hortonworks, Matthias recruited all of the Hortonworks’ technical team in Europe and is also intimately familiar with the leading adopter organizations of Hadoop, Flink, Spark etc. in Europe. From 2004 to 2012, Matthias was Director of Professional Services at VMware. He enabled VMware’s hyper-growth phase in Europe from zero to 50 staff in his region and 20M$ of services revenue.

Originally from Germany, Matthias moved to London a few years ago. He holds an MSc in Physics from RWTH Aachen and an MBA from INSEAD.
